Breed handling is a sport in which the handler shows his or her dog to its best advantage while competing with other dogs in the conformation show ring. MDTC offers breed handling classes for those who wish to prepare or fine tune their dogs for conformation showing. We offer a Beginning Breed Handling class for handlers who are new to the sport and want to learn how to handle their dogs expertly in the conformation show ring. This class is also appropriate for experienced handlers who are starting a young dog. In the Beginning Breed Handling class, handlers are taught the basics of entering the ring, moving the dog about the ring, and presenting their dog for the judge's consideration. Our instructors actually play the role of "judge" and examine the dog's body just like in a real show. In the Advanced Breed Handling class, handlers are taught advanced techniques which put that extra polish on the performance of the conformation dog. In both classes, the instructors share experiences and "tricks of the trade" to help handlers enjoy the experience of showing their dog in the conformation ring and to show their dog to its best advantage.
